Troubleshooting

As introduced in this chapter, the deployment of IPv6 in an enterprise infrastructure touches most of its networking equipment and their configured feature sets. Troubleshooting such environments is similar for IPv4 and IPv6. At the same time, it calls for in-depth knowledge of IP version 6, equipment command-line interfaces (CLIs), the inherent topology and configured features, and basic (such as ping and traceroute) to advanced (such as network analyzer, network management applications) tools. Previous chapters include examples of Cisco IOS CLI output for debug commands; these examples apply to this chapter for similar troubleshooting needs. It should be added that that although IPv6 is a distinctly identified at layer 2, by the Ether Type 86 DD, the procedures to troubleshoot an IPv6 network with tools such as a LAN analyzer do not change from their IPv4 counterpart.
