Chapter 4: Getting to Know Web Matrix

Overview

This chapter is a quick tour of Web Matrix that will cover two areas. First you ll get an overview that will help you get oriented with Web Matrix and its various facilities. You ll learn how to start Web Matrix, and I ll walk you through how Web Matrix is laid out and what Web tools it provides.

As the second part of the tour, you ll create a simple Web Forms page with just a few controls on it. You ll learn the basic procedures for creating pages and adding controls to them. You ll also learn how to set control properties. Finally, you ll learn the basics of how to write program code for your page.

The page you create in this chapter won t be very sophisticated, but in creating it you ll be introduced to many of the fundamental concepts and techniques that you ll use over and over when creating programmed Web pages.

I ll go into some detail in this chapter, providing exact instructions for how to enter text, add controls, and so on. I ll only give such details this first time so that you can see how to work with Web Matrix. In subsequent chapters, I ll assume that you understand the mechanics introduced here.
