Acknowledgments

This book would not have been possible without the contributions from many people. While we take responsibility for any errors that may appear in the text, we thank the following people who have made the book richer, more interesting, and more honest.

Gary

Thanks to the team. Each one of you has provided insight, knowledge, effort, and support throughout the project. Raj Srinivasan joined us as a tester when we were in need, and produced helpful and focused problem reports . I especially want to thank Philippe Kruchten and Per Kroll from whom I have learned the spirit of RUP and developed my style for using RUP on small projects. Many active members of the agile community have taught me things that I have tried to include in my personal process. I have especially enjoyed my interactions with Bob Martin, Ron Jeffries, and Randy Miller.

I'm sure the rest of the team joins me in thanking the reviewers who provided valuable insights. Besides Per Kroll and Philippe Kruchten, we were fortunate that James Dunion, Magnus Lyck , Bob Martin, Dan Rawsthorne, and Chris Soskin reviewed our work. We also appreciate the support we have received from Rational Software. Finally, we thank the folks at Addison-Wesley, past and present, who have helped us bring this book together: Paul Becker, Mary O'Brien, Brenda Mulligan, Amy Fleischer, Patrick Cash-Peterson, and our talented and kind copy editor, Rebecca Greenberg. Thank you for your time and your infinite patience.

Liz

Many thanks to my manager, Karl Hakkarainen, who supported and encouraged my work on this project. Thanks also to Gary for leading the project and to all my co-authors ”Chris, Jas, and Gary ”for being fun to work with while getting the project done. Finally, I extend my appreciation to this book's reviewers whose perceptive, extensive , and funny comments motivated a productive endgame for this project.

Jas

Sincere thanks to Gary, Liz, and Chris (whom I have yet to meet) for your kindness, friendship, insights and support.

Chris

I wish to acknowledge Steve Zerfas, my officemate, for putting up with the conference calls that were part of the PSP Project. He also has heard me say, "On the PSP Project, we did ." more times than any human being should be expected to hear.

I wouldn't have been working on this project without the good graces of my manager, Dave Zygadlo. He was always a good sport about the "midnight project" occasionally creeping into daytime hours.

Finally, I wish to thank my wife, Carmen, for never objecting to the hours I was coding at night, the trips to visit Gary, and for always welcoming Gary into our house when he arrived for a coding session.
