Copying an Object and Its Behaviors

The Detonator watch is finished. Now it's time to add a second watch. You could start from scratch with the second watch and follow all of the previous exercises to add the watch and behaviors to the project. Or you could save a lot of time and energy by duplicating the first watch with all of its behaviors and then replacing the object on the Layers tab.

In the next series of exercises, you'll work on the Layers tab to duplicate the Detonator watch and then replace the second watch object with the Time Bomb watch.

NOTE

If you have not completed the previous exercises and wish to continue with the lesson from this point, close any open Motion projects and open 4-3 behaviors from the folder 04_backup projects in the Lesson_04 folder.

1.	Press Cmd-4 to open the Layers tab in the Project pane.
2.	Press Cmd-1 to open the File Browser tab in the Utility window.
3.	Click the disclosure triangle next to the detonator_stealth_trans object to show the behaviors associated with the object, if they aren't already visible. The behaviors are listed below the object in the order in which they were applied, from bottom to top.
4.	Select the detonator_stealth_trans object on the Layers tab.
5.	Ctrl-click the selected object to open a contextual menu that lists options that you can apply to the selected object. A copy of the detonator_stealth_trans object appears above the original object.

Replacing the Duplicate Object on the Layers Tab

You've duplicated the watch; now you'll replace the object. The object you'll use for the second watch is the time_bomb_trans.psd file in the Lesson_04 contents.

1.	Drag the time_bomb_trans.psd file from the File Browser to the detonator_stealth_trans copy object on the Layers tab and release the mouse. The Time Bomb watch overlaps the Detonator watch in the Canvas. The watches move in sync, doing the exact same thing at the same time. NOTE When you replace a duplicated object with a new media file, the object's content changes, but the object's name remains the same.
2.	On the Layers tab, change the name of the detonator_stealth_trans copy object to time_bomb.
3.	Press Cmd-S to save your progress.
