particle cell

A primary motion graphics object that is multiplied through a particle emitter to create a special effect such as a dust cloud, fire, snow, or falling leaves.

particle emitter

A generator that multiplies a particle cell to achieve motion graphics effects; for example, turning a drop of rain into a storm. You can modify the shape over which particles are emitted, as well as apply behaviors to particle cells or the emitter itself. Particle emitters are organized into categories and are located in the Library.

PICT

Short for picture element. One dot in a still image or within a video clip.

pixel aspect ratio

The width-to-height ratio for the pixels that compose an image. Pixels on computer screens and in high-definition video signals are square (1:1 ratio). Pixels in standard-definition video signals are nonsquare.

play range

A defined portion of a larger motion graphics project. A play range can be isolated in the Canvas with In and Out points.

A navigational element on the scrubber bar that shows you the frame you are on in the Timeline, Canvas, Keyframe Editor, or Audio Editor. You can drag the playhead to navigate through a sequence.

postproduction

The phase of film, video, and audio editing that begins after all the footage is shot.
