Exporting a Still Image

To export a still image from a Motion project, you first need to move the playhead to the frame that you want to export. Then you choose Export from the File menu or press Cmd-E to open the Export window. Finally, you choose Still Image from the Kind pop-up menu on the Export window. You can also click the Options button to choose the type of still image you want to export. When you export a still image or an image sequence, you can include only video. For this exercise, I placed a marker in the Timeline to indicate the frame that you'll export.

1.

Shift-drag the playhead to the marker in the mini-Timeline (9;00).

2.

Press Cmd-E to open the Export window.

3.

Change the name in the Save As field to Air Show Still.

4.

From the Kind pop-up menu, choose Still Image.

The default export preset for a still image is a JPEG file. Let's change the preset to a TIFF file.

5.

From the Export Preset pop-up menu, choose TIFF.

Motion will now export the still image as a TIFF file. You can change the default export presets in the Preset pane of the Preferences window.

6.

Click the Export button.

7.

Press Cmd-H to hide Motion; then double-click the Air Show Still.tif file on your Desktop to preview it.

8.

Press Cmd-Tab to unhide Motion; then close the current Motion project.

As you can see, it's quite easy to export a still image from Motion.
