Launching Motion

There are three ways to launch Motion:

• Double-click the Motion application icon in your hard drive.

• Click once on the Motion icon in the Dock.

• Double-click any Motion project file.

For this exercise, you'll launch Motion by opening a project file.

1.	Locate the MOTION_INTRO Book Files folder on your computer. NOTE If you haven't copied the Lessons folder for this book to your hard drive, do so at this time.
2.	Select the Lesson_01 folder; then double-click the 1-2 Graphics finished project file to open the project and launch the program. When Motion opens, you will see two windows displaying the project 1-2 Graphics finished.

The long window at the left is the Utility window. The Utility window helps you organize and modify your project's elements. The larger window at the right is the Canvas, which is where you create and preview your project.

The current project in the Canvas window is a literal example of a graphic composite using elements common in graphic design, including text, shapes, images, and a background.

In the next series of exercises, you will build this project from scratch to better understand the basic elements of graphic design.
