Brightening the Super Hero in the Sky

Now that are hero is up, up, and away, he doesn't look quite bright enough for someone so much closer to the sun. We'll need to make a couple of adjustments to our hero's Contrast and Saturation to give him a more convincing look, as if the sun were shining on him up there. We want to make fairly small adjustments to avoid washing him out or creating an artificial look.

Adjust the Contrast

In the Properties panel for the superboy.avi clip, click the triangle next to Image Control to reveal the effect's controls.

Set the Contrast to 110.0.

Did You Know?

The Lens Flare effect is a bright idea. If you're not familiar with the Lens Flare effect in Premiere Elements, you should be. Try it on those occasions when you want to emphasize a bright, sunlit scene. The Lens Flare effect creates a glare which just isn't appropriate for this project, but which can be quite appropriate in outdoor scenes where reflective materialsuch as a car bumper or a street signis in the scene. You'll find the Lens Flare effect under Video Effects, Render in the Effects and Transitions view of the Media panel. Test it out and see how the three types of flares are different: 50-300mm Zoom, 35mm Prime, and 105mm Prime. You can interactively set both the brightness and the location (Flare Center) of the lens flare, as well, for true control of just how the flare looks in your clip.
