Adding email links to your pages is a way to offer your end users an easy way to email you without having to remember a specific email address. An email link, when clicked, will launch the end user's default email program. When it launches, it will be in the compose mode addressed to an email address specified by the link. You can add an email link to existing text, or you can create text on-the-fly by using the Insert E-mail Link object located under the Common tab of the Insert Panel. If you want to add the link text, make sure you have it selected when clicking the E-mail link button. You can also choose Insert, E-mail Link. Both of these options launch the E-mail Link dialog box, as shown in Figure 4.31. Figure 4.31. The E-mail Link dialog box enables you to create a hyperlink that will launch an email program. If you have text selected, it will appear in the first text box labeled Text. Otherwise, you can type whatever you like and that text will appear wherever your blinking cursor is on the document. The second text field is where you type in the email address you want the end user to send the email to. When you're happy, click OK. If you highlight the new email link, in the Properties Inspector in the link text field, you'll see that Dreamweaver added a link that looks something like this: mailto:email@address.com. That code is what activates a browser to launch an email program. |
