Chapter 19.  Behaviors

Images that are dependent on other behaviors are often best if preloaded. For example, if you have a rollover graphic, you would want the over state image of the button to be loaded before the event actually took place. If it wasn't loaded, the up state would swap out with a graphic that wasn't there, causing a broken image link to appear.

However, if you preloaded the rollover image, the behavior would be deactivated until that image was present and loaded. Typically, you'll add the Preload Images behavior to the <body> tag. To attach the Preload Images behavior, follow these steps:

  1. Select the <body> tag in the Tag Inspector.

  2. In the Behaviors panel, click the Add Behavior (+) button. Choose Preload Images from the drop-down menu. This opens the Preload Images dialog box, as shown in Figure 19.18.

Figure 19.18. The Preload Images dialog box enables you to specify which image(s) you'd like to preload.

  3. Click the Browse button to search for an image you'd like to preload.

  4. Click the plus sign to add additional images to the behavior.

  5. If you decide you'd like to remove one you've added, click the minus sign button.

  6. When you're done, click OK.
