You can add new items to the Gallery's theme categories. In addition, you can create entirely new themes. For example, if you design graphics for a sports- related organization, you'll surely create a theme called Sports and use it to hold all your designs.

The themes exist only so that you can group similar graphics together. Once separated into themes, all your related images appear together for you to find quicker than if they were spread across multiple themes or if all your images were included in only one theme.

TIP

Resist the temptation to store new images in the theme labeled My Theme , unless they truly are unique. Instead, create new themes to store related groups of drawings you design.

123. Add New Items to Gallery

1.
Create a New Theme

Click the Gallery's New Theme button. The Properties dialog box opens.

2.
Name the Theme

Type a name in the General page of the dialog box. Give the theme a meaningful name that relates to the objects you'll place in that theme category. You want to be able to locate your images quickly.

3.
Add Files to the Theme

Click the dialog box's Files tab to add files to the new theme if you have any graphics to add.

NOTES

Only graphic files such as JPEG, GIF, and TIFF, can be saved in the gallery; Draw files (files with an .odg extension) cannot be added (although you can select objects in a drawing and add them to the theme, as shown in step 5). To export a drawing to a graphic format such as JPEG, choose File, Export .

You can also add sound files to a theme.

Drawings you add to the Gallery can be inserted but not linked to a drawing. See 122 Insert Gallery Objects .

First click the Find Files button and use the Select Path dialog box that appears to select the folder that contains the image or images you want to add to your theme. Click OK, and a list of files in that folder appears in the Properties dialog box.

Select the files you want to add to the new theme and click the Add button. Alternatively, click the Add All button to add to the theme all the images in the selected folder. To preview an image before adding it, select the image and enable the Preview option.

Repeat this step to add files from a different folder to the new theme. When you're done adding images, click OK .

4.
Review Your Theme

Draw displays your new theme and its contents. Review the contents and add more images if needed by right-clicking the theme name and selecting Properties .

TIP

You can delete an image from any theme by clicking the image and pressing Delete . Draw confirms that you want to delete the image before removing it from the Gallery; click Yes to delete.

5.
Add Objects Quickly

If you want to add objects from a drawing to an existing theme, you can do so quickly. For instance, perhaps you've created a group of small circles that form the perfect bubble pathone you don't want to duplicate again.

First, group multiple objects together so that they are easier to move as one. (See 118 About Grouping Objects .) Click the object, and then click it again to copy the object into Draw's temporary memory. Drag the object(s) to an empty spot in a Gallery's theme. When you release your mouse button, the Gallery creates a copy of the object(s) so that you can insert them into subsequent drawings.
