RTP provides a flexible framework for delivery of real-time media, such as audio and video, over IP networks. Its core philosophies ”application-level framing and the end-to-end principle ”make it well suited to the unique environment of IP networks. This chapter has provided an overview of the RTP specification, profiles, and payload formats. Related standards cover call setup, control and advertisement, and resource reservation. The two parts of RTP introduced in this chapter ”the data transfer protocol and the control protocol ”are covered in detail in the next two chapters. |
