This chapter covered some of the high-level aspects of the Internet. A description of Internet architecture and history, as well as the standards bodies that define the protocols that makes the Internet work, were described. A great amount of information and detail has been omitted because this book focuses mainly on the use of IP in wireless networks. In order to understand the reasons for wireless networks adopting IP and moving toward IP-based architectures in the next generation, it is important to understand the Internet itself. |
