Appendix A. Creating a Development Environment for Your Own SQL-NS Applications

In Chapter 2, "Getting Set Up," you set up the development environment used to build the sample applications in this book. This development environment consists of a directory structure and a set of batch files that invoke SQL-NS commands, grant database and filesystem permissions, and set up auxiliary databases. Using the batch files means that you don't have to remember the exact syntax of every SQL-NS command or the precise sequence of steps required to create and manage the sample applications.

When you build SQL-NS applications of your own, it's a good idea to use a similar development environment. Doing so not only makes the development process easier, but also less error prone. Instead of designing a development environment from scratch, you can extend the one used for the sample applications in this book. This appendix explains how to do this.
