#93 Creating Text Buttons in Encore DVD

For many projects, a simple menu composed of a video frame grab for background and text buttons will suffice. Here's how to create the text buttons.

Encore DVD Retains Previous Text Characteristics

Once you get the desired "look" for your text buttons, type all of your buttons at once. Encore DVD will keep the same text characteristics until you change them, ensuring a consistent appearance.

1.	Click the Text tool in the Toolbox (Figure 93a). Figure 93a. Click the Text tool and start typing to add text to a menu. To accomplish this, insert all text labels first, position them as desired, and then convert them to buttons in the order in which you'd like the viewer to browse.
2.	Click the Menu at the target location and enter the desired text.
3.	To customize the text, click the Character tab in the Properties panel and drag over the text with your cursor (Encore DVD will display a yellow highlight box over the text). You can modify target font, font size, color, and other characteristics as desired (Figure 93b). Figure 93b. Modify font and other characteristics in the Character tab of the Properties panel. Try Encore DVD's Libraries Encore DVD has an extensive library of buttons in the Library panel (Figure 92a). Rather than starting from scratch with the Text tool, you can experiment with this content by dragging a button into the menu and modifying that button.
4.	Click the Direct Select tool in the Toolbox (Figure 93a).
5.	Click the new text label. Encore DVD will place a bounding box around the text.
6.	Choose Object > Convert to Button. Encore DVD will convert the text to a Normal button that you can link to either another menu or other content.
