Q1:

Doesn't Microsoft promote the usage of a different scripting language for Internet Explorer?

A1:

Yes. Microsoft definitely would prefer that you use its own scripting language based on Visual Basic called VBScript, but Internet Explorer also fully supports JavaScript. Some commands work slightly differently in the Microsoft implementation of JavaScript than they do in Mozilla Firefox, but because the JavaScript code covered in this hour works exactly the same in all major browsers, you can reuse it with confidence.

Q2:

I want to display ad banner images that each link to different web pages. How difficult is this?

A2:

It's not terribly difficult, but it does require a level of JavaScript programming knowledge that is outside the realm of this hour. If you'd like to build on the examples in this hour and tweak them to do more interesting things, I highly recommend that you spend some time to learn JavaScript. Otherwise, you should probably stick to using the examples without major modification.
