Your manager tasks you to draw up a design to handle your upcoming MetaFrame XP deployment. You currently plan on creating a single farm with four zones to cover your four data centers that contain 50 servers each. You plan on having your Microsoft SQL Server data store at the main data center. Using the example in Figure 4-14, decide how you would use the various techniques to provide IMA connectivity to your farms. Remember to consider direct and indirect connections, zoning possibilities, and replicated data stores. The WAN connections are used for other mission- critical data as well as ICA and IMA traffic and over-usage should be minimized. Each zone will provide redundancy for every other zone and the loss of one zone would not cause a loss of service to users.

To minimize use of the WAN connection and to avoid loading ODBC drivers on 200 servers, they can be configured to use indirect connections to the dedicated data collector and configure the data collector as the only direct connection. Since the loss of connectivity to the data store will not cause an outage to the users for 48 hours, it is determined that the single point of failure that the usage of indirect connections introduces is outweighed by the bandwidth savings and administrative time saved by not loading and maintaining ODBC drivers.
