RC5

This is an encryption algorithm that Citrix employs to encrypt session information from ICA Client devices to Citrix MetaFrame for Windows servers. RC5 encryption uses the RC5 encryption algorithm developed by RSA Data Security, Inc. and the Diffie-Hellman key agreement with a 1024-bit key to generate RC5 public and private keys. RC5 encryption supports 40-, 56-, and 128-bit encryption that can be enforced by Citrix administrators on a per-connection basis. In addition, minimum encryption levels can be used to enforce encryption if a connection is to be made.

Reboot Schedule

Periodic server reboots can be scheduled using the reboot schedule tab for each server. It is a good practice to reboot servers on a regular basis. The reason for this is that applications housed on the server can cause memory leaks, which tie up valuable resources on your servers.

Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAID)

RAID is a disk subsystem made up of several drives of the same size that appear as a single drive thereby improving reliability, response time, and/or storage capacity. Selecting the correct RAID level is a complex process, and each has its own strengths and drawbacks. Typically, a RAID setup is recommended in a multiprocessor environment. Hardware RAID is highly advised, as it consumes fewer resources than software RAID on both Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Services Edition. If RAID is not an option, stick to fast SCSI drives.

Remote Access Service (RAS)

Remote Access Service is a built in feature of the Microsoft NT operating system. It allows users to dial establish a connection to an NT network over a standard phone line. Remote Access allows users to access files on a network or transfer files from a remote PC, over a Dial-Up Networking connection. The performance of transferring files over a dial-up connection is very similar to the performance you would get if you were downloading a file from the Internet.

Remote Display Protocol (RDP)

This is Microsoft's version of a thin-client protocol. RDP operates on many of the same principles as the ICA protocol. RDP allows users to access and control Windows Terminal Servers remotely, using a minimal amount of resources on the client device. However, the RDP protocol is not as robust as the ICA protocol. The RDP protocol only supports TCP/IP and lacks many of the ICA features that create a seamless user experience for Citrix clients.

Resource Manager

This is a monitoring tool that was made specifically for the MetaFrame XP, server-based environment. Older, less 'server-based aware' utilities often do not give accurate readings because they are not in tune to the server-based environment. They don't take into account that the server is doing 100 percent of the processing and that multiple users are running sessions from it at one time. Resource Manager allows you view and monitor information about your server or farm and capture real-time data or produce reports. It can show you the applications you are running, how many instances are running and who is running them. You can track the resources consumed by each user and application and associate a charge with the usage so that you can that you can charge back for the use of applications and resources.

Ricochet

Ricochet enables laptop and Windows CE users to utilize PC Card-based modems to access the Internet at up to 128 Kbps in most major cities.
