Collaborative Learning in Project Management Training

Managing and participating on project teams requires more than knowledge about project management and the content of the project itself. It also requires the ability to work effectively in teams , sharing ideas as well as leadership in producing project deliverables and juggling priorities of schedule, cost, and quality. A well-rounded project management training experience will include plenty of opportunity to practice collaborative techniques, so your workshops should have some components that require team interaction and cooperation.

Project post-mortems usually contain sections that evaluate how well the team functioned. You will want to point out to workshop participants that team activities are intended to simulate team efforts on real projects and you should be sure that your examples of lessons learned include questions about team effectiveness. Try to include learning objectives that address team dynamics in project management and let participants know that these will include discussions of team processes as part of the overall coverage of project management skills.
