Reconnecting Media

It is important to keep the Lessons and Media folders together in the FCE HD Book Files folder. If you keep them together on your hard drive, you should be able to maintain the original link between the files.

It is possible, however, to break the original link between the project files and media files in the process of copying them from the DVD. You will know this has happened if a dialog box appears when you open a lesson project file, asking you to reconnect the project files. Also, you will see a red diagonal line over some of your material. Reconnecting the project files is a simple process and is covered in more depth in Lesson 16 in the "Reconnecting Media" section. But if this happens when you're opening a lesson project file, just follow these steps:

1.	If an Offline Files dialog box appears, click the Reconnect button.
2.	When the Reconnect Files dialog box appears, click Search. Final Cut Express will automatically find the missing file for you.
3.	Click Choose.
4.	In the Reconnect Files window, click Connect. Final Cut Express will reconnect a link to the file at this location.
