System Requirements

Before beginning this book, you should have a working knowledge of your computer and its operating system. Make sure that you know how to use the mouse and standard menus and commands and also how to open, save, and close files. If you need to review these techniques, see the printed or online documentation included with your system.

Basic system requirements for Final Cut Express HD include the following:

• Power Macintosh computer with a 350-MHz or faster G4 or G5 processor, AGP graphics card, and built-in FireWire

• Other computer options include PowerBook G4, iMac G4 350 MHz or faster, iBook (DualUSB) G4 500 MHz or faster, eMac and Xserve, all with built-in FireWire

• Real-time editing requires a single or dual processor Power Mac G4 500 MHz or faster computer (PowerBook G4 667 MHz or faster recommended for real-time mobile DV editing)

• Mac OS X v10.2.5 or later

• QuickTime 6.4 or later (included)

• 384 MB of RAM (512 MB recommended for G4 real-time effects)

• 40 MB of available disk space required for installation
