Deal with Customizations

 < Day Day Up >

One of the most daunting things to take into consideration when planning an upgrade or migration is customizations. One of the first things to review when you are planning any upgrade or migration are your particular set of customizations when taken in comparison to the new features available in the new release. Often times you will discover that many of your previous customizations are no longer needed, as they (or something like them) are incorporated into the new release of the application. If you are upgrading from Version 10.7, where the interface was still primarily character based, it will likely mean recoding the customizations according to the new 11i coding standards. If you are upgrading from 10.7 NCA or SC or from 11.0 you will need, minimally to regenerate these forms through Oracle Forms Developer 6i making the layout changes that will allow them to be consistent with the look and feel of the rest of the 11i interface.

Keep the list of customizations handy throughout the upgrade process as many of these customizations may get overlayed with other versions in the upgrade process. You will either have to reincorporate the changes into the new forms or you will need to overlay the newer versions with your older custom versions. It is advisable to make the changes to the newer version to make sure that you are dealing with any table changes that may have come with the upgrade.
