AD Splicer

Many products are released after a base release has been shipped (not on the installation CDs for that release). These products are often referred to as off cycle products. Many of them can easily be installed with ADPATCH; however, many others require the use of another AD Utility, AD Splicer (ADSPLICE). AD Splicer modifies entries within the applications layer's APPL_TOP and in the database so that the other utilities (most particularly ADADMIN and ADPATCH) recognize the products as valid Oracle E-Business Suite products and associates them with the current version installed.

Off cycle product patches that require the use of AD Splicer contain files that need to splice the new product into the existing configuration. Files included are usually control files and README files that describe how to run the utility for this product. The control files are usually separated into product definition files and product configuration files.
