The Goal of this Exercise

The goal of this exercise is to set up the debugging environment for server jobs on the iSeries host. This knowledge will help you for programs invoked not only by the WebFacing environment, but by any environment on an iSeries server.

At the end of the exercise, you should be able to

• Locate and identify the job started by the WebFacing environment

• Start the debugger

• Point the debugger to the program you want to debug

• Start the debug server on the iSeries host (for Version 4.0 users)

• Set breakpoints in the program source

• Monitor variables in your program

• Step through your program statements

• Step into called programs

• Step over called programs
