Section 1.5. Summary

1.5. Summary

This chapter covered two major drivers that foster SOAs: an ever-increasing number of collaborations between enterprises that result from focusing on core competencies and enhancing agility, and the pressing need to solve the integration problem by loosening the coupling between functional components. This chapter explored the concept of a service as an evolution of software component technology and discussed the impact of services on application structures. It also presented the principles of SOA and introduced a framework of an environment that supports SOA applications.
