The Picture Control

 <  Day Day Up  >

A picture control allows the user to insert an image into an InfoPath form. To position a picture control on the form area, simply drag the picture control from the Controls task pane to the desired spot. You will be asked if you want the user to be able to save the picture data directly into the form, or whether the picture data should be saved separately in a linked file.

For example, take the situation of an engineer who is visiting a site on a safety inspection. Armed with a digital camera, the safety inspector can take photos of a piece of equipment that's causing safety concerns, or she might choose to take digital images to document that a piece of equipment is in good condition. The images along with an InfoPath form can be submitted to headquarters immediately for review by a senior inspector. Similarly, during a site assessment, an inspector could include a predefined set of images, depending on the purpose of the assessment.

Using a Picture Control in a Repeating Section Control

A single picture control has its uses; but in safety inspection scenarios, for example, it might be most useful to allow the inspector the flexibility to take as many digital images as she feels are helpful. To provide that flexibility, a picture control can be inserted inside a repeating section control. Simply drag a repeating section to the form area and then drag a picture control inside the repeating section. A user can readily add the appropriate number of images to a report. You might also want to add a rich text box control inside the repeating section control to allow the inspector to provide comments about each image.
