What You Should Already Know

 <  Day Day Up  >

I assume that you have good general knowledge of using a computer on Windows operating systems ”InfoPath 2003 runs on Windows 2000, XP, or 2003. I also assume that you are familiar with using complex user interfaces that are frequently found in modern Windows programs.

Scripting code (VBScript or JScript) is used in InfoPath to achieve functionality in addition to that provided by the InfoPath user interface. I assume that you have done some programming, but not necessarily with JScript or VBScript. In explaining script code, I won't attempt to provide a beginner tutorial in each scripting language ”I don't take time to explain, for example, what a variable or a loop is ”but will focus on how the scripting language is used to achieve a desired piece of functionality in InfoPath.

InfoPath uses two object models ”the InfoPath object model and the Microsoft implementation of the XML Document Object Model. I assume you are familiar with accessing and manipulating an object model. Relevant details of the InfoPath object model and the XML Document Object Model will be explained where needed.
