Chapter 13 -- Controlling Layout and Position with Styles

Chapter 13

In Chapter 12, you saw how CSS attributes and style sheets affect both fonts and text on Web pages. Styles can also be used to format and position elements, and control the overall layout of your Web pages. For example, using CSS, you can

  • Place a background image or a color behind an element
  • Create a custom border around a block of text
  • Set different margins around the top, bottom, left side, and right side of an image
  • Precisely tune the distance between an object and its borders
  • Place an object at an exact pixel location on the screen

NOTE
Many of the style attributes in this chapter are not properly displayed by Netscape Navigator 4. The good news is that by all indications Navigator 5 will comply much more closely with the CSS specifications and thus display styles properly.
