14.12 Conclusion

When asked about the most difficult part of my professional life, I sometimes respond by saying it is not always easy to tell whether the bullets are coming at me from the front or from behind. If that is taken as a criticism of the seniors, even though it is said somewhat in fun, then so be it. The fact of the matter is that every boss you have will be a mixed bag of pluses and minuses. I have worked for some super people and drawn my share from the ranks of the less blessed. I make a point of learning from each one, the better of whom have reciprocated, which is nice. Do not forget that having a boss can be leveraged as a resource or as a shield in the event that things are not going well and the stakeholders are heaving rocks at you. Hopefully, my lessons learned in this area are presented concisely enough that you can use them to address this perplexing aspect of the project management experience.
