Create DVD-ROM Content

In addition to menus, movies, and slideshows, DVDs can store and deliver any files from your computer, making them accessible for anyone with a DVD drive. This data storage feature is called DVD-ROM (DVDRead Only Memory). A small business may want to include PDFs, forms, documents, maps, or other data on a disc. Or when you create a DVD slideshow, you may want to include the original, high-resolution photos on the disc for someone to use in a brochure or family album. Remember that files you add to the DVD-ROM section of a disc adds to the total space used for the rest of the project. Be sure to check the Status pane (see page 212) as you add files to ensure that everything will fit on a disc.

To put DVD-ROM content in your DVD project

1.

From the Advanced menu, choose "Edit DVD-ROM Contents…."

2.

In the "DVDROM Contents" window that appears, click "Add Files…." Browse and select the files you want, then click the "Open" button.

Or drag files from the Finder into the "DVD-ROM Contents" window.

You can create new folders to help organize files, change the order of folders and files, and delete items from the DVD-ROM section of the disc.

  • To create a new folder, click the "New Folder" button at the bottom of the window. Double-click the new folder to rename it.

  • To reorganize the DVD-ROM contents, drag the folders up or down in the list, or drag files and folders in or out of other folders.

  • To delete an item from the DVD-ROM content, select the item, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.

To access the DVD-ROM content that's on a DVD disc

1.

Insert the disc in a DVD drive, then double-click the DVD disc icon.

2.

In the window that opens, double-click the folder "DVD-ROM Contents." The folder may also have the same name as your project.

3.

Drag any of the files in the DVD-ROM folder from the disc to any location on the local computer.
