Summary

In the course of this chapter we saw some of the many ways in which Application layer data can be used to switch traffic. We saw four of the most commonly implemented Layer 7 protocols for load balancing ”HTTP, FTP, DNS and RTSP ”and some of the issues that can be solved with content intelligent switching. One thing is for sure ”as the processing power of content switches increases , the deeper into application data network designers will be able to look, opening a whole new set of applications for this type of technology.
