Chapter 7. Project 3: Making Sporting Event Movies

Sports is one of the easiest and best subjects for making great movies. The camera (like the human eye) loves motion, action, and dynamismall of which most sports have plenty of. (That's why there are so many sports programs on TV.)

Sporting events have plenty of actionand conflict. Compelling dramas make engaging movies. In sports, someone is going to win, and someone is going to lose. That's inherently interesting.

In this chapter, we'll look at the best ways to capture the action and the emotion of a sports event, beginning with how to shoot. Shooting outdoor sports is fun because there's lots and lots of actionand color and emotion. As an added bonus, audio and lighting are often simpler in this kind of shooting than in shooting other kinds of movies.

You can also find information in this chapter about sports camcorders and disposable camcorders for capturing participatory, first-person shots to give your viewers the feeling that they are experiencing the action themselves.

This chapter provides editing tips, too, as well as editing resourcesincluding selected sports music tracks, tips on using AutoMovie to make quick highlights movies, and how to use Movie Maker video effects to speed up or slow down action shots.
