Exam Essentials

Understand the difference between a storage group and a store. Storage groups contain stores, plain and simple. In Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, you can have up to four storage groups, each of which can contain up to five mailbox or public folder stores. Recall that some items are configured at the storage group level, while others are configured at the store level. A storage group, regardless of how many stores it contains, uses only one set of transaction logs.

Understand the benefits and costs of full-text indexing. Full-text indexing can make it quicker and easier for clients to search your stores, but it does come with a cost. Expect that the disk space required for any full-text index will be approximately 20 percent of that required for the associated store. As the store size increases over time, so does that of the full-text index. Remember that the following common file types are indexed as well: ASP, DOC, EML, HTM, HTML, PPT, TXT, and XLS.
