Modifying a Form

You can go back at any time and modify your form. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open the template that contains the form you want to modify (see "Modifying Your Templates" in Hour 10 if you need a little coaching).

  2. Choose View, Toolbars, Forms if you don't see the Forms toolbar.

  3. Click the Protect Form button on the Forms toolbar to unprotect the form (or choose Tools, Unprotect). If you required a password to unprotect the document, you will need to enter it now.

  4. Make whatever changes you like to the text, formatting, and form fields.

  5. Click the Protect Form button again to turn protection on. If you had previously assigned a password to unprotect and want to continue to require a password, use the Tools, Protect Document method to assign the password again (Word will not retain the password from the last time you assigned it).

  6. You might want to fill in some test data to see how the modified form behaves. If you are happy with the results, continue to the next step. Otherwise, repeat steps 3 through 5 again. If you want to clear out the test data after you unprotect the form to modify it further, click the Reset Form Fields button in the Forms toolbar (refer to Figure 19.2).

  7. Save and close the template.
