Q&A

Q1:

I told Word to ignore some possible misspellings and now I'm not so sure I was right. How can I get Word to mark these words again?

A1:

You can tell Word to reflag all possible spelling and grammar errors in the current document. Choose Tools, Options; click the Spelling & Grammar tab; click the Recheck Document button; click Yes in the message box that appears; and then click OK.

Q2:

I have used a formal writing style in a document, and Word is suggesting all sorts of grammatical changes to make the prose more casual. Can I tell it that this document is supposed to be formal?

A2:

Yes. You can set the writing style on which Word should base its grammar check. To do this, choose Tools, Options; click the Spelling & Grammar tab; and select the desired style in the Writing Style list. (To see what Word checks for this writing style ”and optionally modify the list ”click the Settings button to display the Grammar Settings dialog box and click OK when done.) Then click OK in the Options dialog box.
