Once the site is live, then squeezing as much performance out of the site as possible should become an objective for you. The site, as with all IT installations of importance, will need to be fully documented and appropriate schematics should be created to assist in finding bottlenecks.
The transaction cost analysis (TCA) metric is often used to measure a site's capacity. In this case the transaction refers to work completed to fulfill a user request, such as placing an item into a shopping basket. It does not mean an exchange of funds to purchase something or a traditional database transaction. A base TCA is normally established before a site goes live using predicted site traffic to define a system benchmark.
