Appendix: Guide to Microsoft .NET Products System Requirements

The Microsoft range of .NET products requires a minimum specification of hardware to run. This is a minimum and each specific installation will be different, so this is to be treated as a guide only. For up-to-date information about any latest service packs or hardware recommendations that may be required for a particular installation, visit the Microsoft Web site (www.microsoft.com).

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server (Minimum Requirements)

• Computer/Processor

  133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU

  256MB of RAM recommended minimum. (128MB minimum supported; 4GB maximum)

  2GB hard-disk with a minimum of 1.0GB free space. (Additional free hard-disk space is required if you are installing over a network.)

• CPU Support

  Windows 2000 Server supports up to four CPUs on one machine.

Microsoft Application Center 2000 (Minimum Requirements)

  Pentium-compatible 400 MHz or higher processor

• Operating System

  Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating system, Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 or later, and Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 must be installed as part of Windows 2000 installation.

  100MB of available hard-disk space to install services; additional space required for site content and databases.

  RAM requirements depend on number of services installed on the computer. Minimum RAM requirements for Microsoft Project Server 2002:

  • 128MB of RAM (Required) Customers installing SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft require an additional 128MB of RAM.

    Customers installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 require an additional 64MB of RAM.

    Customers installing SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services require an additional 64MB of RAM.

    RAM requirements depend on number of services installed on the computer. Minimum RAM recommendations for Microsoft Project Server 2002:

  • 512MB of RAM (Recommended) Customers installing SharePoint Team Services: additional 192MB of RAM recommended.

    Customers installing SQL Server 2000: additional 128MB of RAM recommended.

    Customers installing SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services: additional 128MB of RAM recommended.

• Hard Disk

  Hard disk space requirements depend on number of services installed on the computer.

  50MB of available hard-disk space is required for the typical installation of Microsoft Project Server 2002.

  Customers installing SharePoint Team Services require an additional 70MB for a typical installation, plus 5MB for each provisioned Web site.

  Customers installing SQL Server 2000 require an additional 250MB for the typical installation of SQL Server.

  Customers installing SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services require an additional 130MB for the typical installation of Analysis Services.

  Note: Installing additional services requires more hard-disk space.

  SQL Server 2000 trial software and SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition run on the operating systems listed above for the Enterprise and Standard Editions, as well as on Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows NT Workstation 4.0 with SP5 or later.

  SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition and SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine run on the operating systems listed above for Enterprise and Standard Editions, as well as on Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows NT Workstation 4.0 with SP5 or later.

  UNIX, Apple Macintosh, and OS/2 require Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) client software from a third-party vendor.
