At Microsoft Press, we use tools to illustrate our books for software developers and IT professionals. Tools very simply and powerfully symbolize human inventiveness. They’re a metaphor for people extending their capabilities, precision, and reach. From simple calipers and pliers to digital micrometers and lasers, these stylized illustrations give each book a visual identity, and a personality to the series. With tools and knowledge, there’s no limit to creativity and innovation. Our tagline says it all: the tools you need to put technology to work.

Acknowledgments

Writing Microsoft IIS 6.0 Administrator’s Pocket Consultant was a lot of fun— and a lot of work. As you’ll see, IIS 6.0 is very different from its predecessors, and that meant a lot of research to ensure the book was as accurate as it could be. It is gratifying to see techniques I’ve used time and again to solve problems put into a printed book so that others may benefit from them. But no man is an island and this book couldn’t have been written without help from some very special people.

As I’ve stated in Microsoft Windows XP Administrator’s Pocket Consultant and in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Administrator’s Pocket Consultant, the team at Microsoft Press is top-notch. Julie Miller and Valerie Woolley were instrumental throughout the writing process. They helped me stay on track and get the tools I needed to write this book. Completing and publishing the book wouldn’t have been possible without their help! Susan McClung headed up the editorial process for nSight, Inc. As the Project Manager, she wore many hats and helped out in many ways. Thank you!

Unfortunately for the writer (but fortunately for readers), writing is only one part of the publishing process. Next came editing and author review. I must say, Microsoft Press has the most thorough editorial and technical review process I’ve seen anywhere—and I’ve written a lot of books for many different publishers. Bob Hogan was the technical editor for the book. Once again, it was a great pleasure working with Bob. I’d also like to thank Joseph Gustaitis for his careful copy editing of this book. I believe Joe has been the copy editor for every Pocket Consultant that I’ve written. His work is always top-notch!

I would also like to thank Michael Bolinger, Jeff Koch, and Juliana Aldous Atkinson. Thank you for being flexible when it came to the writing and the schedule. Thank you also for shepherding this project through the publishing process!

Hopefully, I haven’t forgotten anyone, but if I have, it was an oversight. Honest.;-)
