The term publishing tends to make getting a Web site online sound complex and difficult. But Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 takes publishing sites out of the province of Webmasters, and puts it squarely in your hands. Publishing refers to the process of transferring your files from your local, disk-based Web (the one you maintain on your own computer) to a remote Web site. The remote Web site can be a location on a SharePoint or other Web server, where others view the site with their browsers. It can also be a file system on your own computer, a shared network folder, or another computer on your network that others on the local network can view, or that can function as a backup. This chapter explores some of the many ways FrontPage enables you to publish sites. There are a number of different server types out there ”FTP, SharePoint, WebDAV ”and FrontPage makes it easy to work with any or all of them, depending on your needs.
