Chapter 9, "Using Word 2003, Excel 2003, and Outlook 2003 with SharePoint Technologies," looked at how Word 2003, Excel 2003, and Outlook 2003 integrate with SharePoint 2003 technologies, and this chapter provides an overview of how other Office System 2003 products are typically used with SharePoint 2003 implementations.

A principle advantage of combining the SharePoint 2003 products with Office 2003 products is the Shared Workspace task pane that connects users of Office documents with the workspace or site that the document is stored in. Another advantage is that SharePoint can make information available to a wider audience than simply using the products themselves can, and SharePoint can package the information in different ways, depending on the perceived needs of the audience. A primary method is to save a document (such as a Project document or Visio file) as a web page and then make it accessible from a SharePoint library.

This chapter covers the following products: Project 2003, Visio 2003, PowerPoint 2003, OneNote 2003, Publisher 2003, Access 2003, InfoPath 2003, FrontPage 2003, and and Live Communications Server 2005. Each of these products is complex, so this chapter focuses on how each product integrates with SharePoint 2003 and tips for using SharePoint 2003 to enhance access to information contained in files from these products.
