Integrating with Dreamweaver

Another default setting that simply makes sense to change right away is how ColdFusion interacts with Dreamweaver. Often you will be using more than just ColdFusion Studio to work on your projects; the second program will be a complementary product such as Macromedia Dreamweaver. In general, working back and forth between programs can help speed up development, but the process can be slowed if you have to constantly open each file separately in Dreamweaver. ColdFusion offers integration with Dreamweaver so you don't have to do this.

NOTE

If you do not have Dreamweaver you can skip this task.

  1. Choose Options > Settings or press F8.

This once again opens the Settings window.

  2. Select Dreamweaver/UltraDev from the list of items on the left.

The Dreamweaver/UltraDev menu will appear on the right. Dreamweaver integration, when enabled, will allow ColdFusion to check if a file is already being edited in Dreamweaver. It will also put an icon on the editor toolbar to allow you to open your document in Dreamweaver with a single click.

  3. Check the Enable Dreamweaver/UltraDev integration check box.

Dreamweaver/UltraDev integration is now enabled. You now have the option to control what happens to the file when you click the Dreamweaver icon. It can save automatically; you can be prompted to save the file, or you can choose to never save the file before it opens in Dreamweaver.

  4. Select Prompt to save changes to current document.

There may be times when you do want to save the changes you made before you view them and there may be times when you don't want to save the changes. This option gives you the ability to do both.

  5. Click Apply.

The Settings window will close and you return to the main window. Notice that the Dreamweaver icon has been added to the bottom of the editor toolbar.
