Working with Sync Locks

Premiere can help you keep your audio and video tracks in sync. If you have edited a track to perfection and you don't want to make any adjustments to it, you can lock that track. Locking the track keeps you from adding or removing any portions.

  • To lock a track, click the gray box next to the speaker icon of the desired audio track.

  • To unlock a track, again click the gray box next to the speaker icon of the desired audio track.

This is a great way to work with tracks one at a time. For instance, you might cut your voice-over tracks and master them to the final visual program. If you add music and sound effects later, having the sync locks on for the voice-over tracks takes the worry out of accidentally knocking any of those tracks out of sync or deleting one of the clips. Locking any of the audio tracks (or video tracks, for that matter) prevents you from adding, moving, deleting, or making any sort of changes to any of the clips in the locked tracks. The sync locks even override the target track selection if you are trying to edit a clip into a locked track.
