Understanding What Happens When You Buy Music from the iTunes Music Store

note

The most important difference between music you purchase from the iTunes Music Store and other music in your Library is that a computer must be authorized to play music from the iTunes Music Store. You'll learn about this concept later in this chapter.

When you download music from the iTunes Music Store, whether you use 1-Click or the Shopping Cart, that music is added to your Library (see Figure 26.1). From there, you can listen to it, add it to playlists, burn it to disc, move it to an iPod, share it, and so on. In other words, it becomes mostly like music you have added to your Library from other sources.

Figure 26.1. This music came from the iTunes Music Store; it doesn't look any different from other music in the Library and acts only a bit differently.
