Deleting Macros and Macro Projects

 < Day Day Up >

The last technique you should master when creating macros is how to delete them. You'll find that deleting macros sometimes comes into play during the creation process. For example, you might want to test-drive a few versions of a particular macro before you settle on a final version. Or you might want to delete a macro simply because you don't need it anymore or you're trying to reduce your document's file size. Regardless of your reason for deleting macros, you can delete them in two ways: You can delete an individual macro, or you can delete an entire macro project (which contains all the macros in a selected document or template).

Deleting a Single Macro

You can easily delete any macro you create by opening the Macros dialog box and deleting the macro. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Tools, Macro, Macros (or press Alt+F8) to open the Macros dialog box.

  2. In the Macros dialog box, select the name of the macro you want to delete in the Macro Name list. If the macro isn't displayed, choose a different document, template, or list in the Macros In list.

  3. Click Delete. Word displays a message box, verifying your decision to delete the macro.

  4. Click Yes to proceed with the deletion; otherwise, click No.

  5. Click Close to close the Macros dialog box.

    Caution

Once you delete a macro, it's gone. If you decide that you'd like to use the macro after you've deleted it, you'll have to re-create the macro from scratch.

Deleting a Macro Project

In addition to deleting individual macros from within the Macros dialog box, you can delete an entire macro project by using the Organizer. When you delete a macro project, you delete all the macros you've created and added to a document or template.

Caution

After you delete a macro project and save the document or template, there's no way to recover the macro project.

To delete a macro project, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Tools, Macro, Macros (or press Alt+F8) to open the Macros dialog box.

  2. Click Organizer to open the Organizer dialog box.

  3. Select the macro project you want to delete from the appropriate list and click Delete.

  4. Word displays a message box asking whether you're sure you want to delete the macro project. Click Yes to proceed with the deletion; otherwise, click No.

  5. Click Close to close the Organizer dialog box.

By default, Word displays the macro projects contained in the current document in the left list and the macro projects stored in the Normal template in the right list. You can use either list to navigate to the document or template of your choice.
