SURFING THE WEB WITH INTERNET EXPLORER

Internet Explorer (IE) is a web browser that lets you quickly and easily browse the World Wide Web. When you enter a new web address in the Address box and press Enter (or click the Go button), IE loads the new page. You can also click any link on a web page to go to the new page. Let's demonstrate with a quick tour of the Web.

Connect to your ISP, and then launch Internet Explorer by selecting Start, Internet.

Let's find out what's happening out in the real world by heading over to one of the most popular news sites. Enter www.cnn.com in the Address box.

Click the Go button to go to the CNN.com site.

Click any headline or link to read the complete story.

Click the down scroll button to read more of the story.

TIP

Change IE's Home Page

When you first launch Internet Explorer, it loads your predefined home page. To change Internet Explorer's home page, drag a page's icon from Internet Explorer's Address box onto the Home button on the toolbar.

Now, let's do a little searching at Yahoo!. Enter www.yahoo.com in the Address box.

Click the Go button to go to Yahoo!.

Ready to search? Enter michael miller molehill group in the Search the Web box at the top of the page.

Click the Yahoo! Search button to begin the search.

TIP

Searching the Web

To find a particular page on the Web, you use a search site. These sites, such as Google and Yahoo!, let you enter a query and search for web pages that contain those keywords.

When the search results page appears, find the listing for The Molehill Group (it should be near the top) and click the link.

Going Back
