Microsoft Office 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI Pack) service packs and product updates are designed to help improve the security, performance, and reliability of Office MUI Packs. A service pack, such as Office 2003 MUI Pack Service Pack 1 (SP1), typically updates the entire MUI Pack package and represents a new baseline version of the product.
Between service packs, Microsoft may also offer product updates developed in response to emerging issues such as virus attacks or bug fixes. These interim product updates, which typically update specific features, require the most recent baseline version of the product.
MUI Pack service packs and product updates are typically released shortly after a corresponding core Office service pack or product update. You can apply Office and MUI Pack updates at the same time or at different times, and in any order.
The strategies for applying updates to MUI Pack installations are the same as the strategies for updating core installations of Office 2003:
If you deployed Office and the MUI Packs from a compressed CD image and took advantage of the local installation source, you can distribute MUI Pack client updates directly to users.
When you install Office from a compressed CD image, you can chain MUI Packs to the core installation. In this case, chained MUI Pack packages inherit the same local installation source properties as Office 2003.
If you deployed Office and the MUI Packs from an administrative installation point, you apply the MUI Pack administrative update (MSP file) to the administrative image and then recache and reinstall the MUI Pack on users’ computers.
When you install Office from an administrative installation point, you can include MUI Packs in the same image and apply administrative updates to them in the same way.
Note | If a particular service pack has language dependencies, separate versions of the update are made available for each language in which Office 2003 is released. |
