Custom Maintenance Wizard

The updated Custom Maintenance Wizard enables you to make changes to a Microsoft Office 2003 installation after the initial deployment. Using the Custom Maintenance Wizard, you can modify almost every feature that you can set in the Custom Installation Wizard—including default user settings, security levels, Microsoft Outlook settings, and registry keys.

The Custom Maintenance Wizard works by creating a configuration maintenance file (CMW file) based on the Windows Installer package (MSI file) used in the Office 2003 installation. To apply the changes to a client computer, you run the Custom Maintenance Wizard from a command line on the client computer, specifying the CMW file that contains the changes you want to apply.

You must use the new version of the Custom Maintenance Wizard to modify Office 2003 installations—previous versions of this tool cannot modify Office 2003. The Office Resource Kit installs the Custom Maintenance Wizard and its shortcuts to a version-specific location on your computer.

Install the Custom Maintenance Wizard

The Custom Maintenance Wizard is automatically installed on your computer when you install the Office Resource Kit. To locate the tool, click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, point to Microsoft Office Resource Kit, and then click Custom Maintenance Wizard.

The Custom Maintenance Wizard can also be downloaded from the Toolbox on the Office 2003 Resource Kit Web site.
