Mowery and Nelson (1999), Mowery and Langlois (1994), and Torrisi (1998) describe the general structure of the software industry, particularly from a historic perspective. Ferguson and Morris (1994) give a useful introduction to the computer industry, with an emphasis on hardware and the importance of architecture. While there are a number of books on software reuse, the Jacobson, Griss, and J nsson (1997) book is one of the best. Szyperski (2002a) has the most comprehensive treatment of software components, including both economics and business issues. The state-of-the-art collection of edited articles in Heineman and Councill (2001) provides a wealth of additional information on most related issues.
