[1] Foster, Alan Dean: Dark Star. Ballantine, New York, 1974.The book was made into a film of the same name by John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon, released in 1974. (Carpenter's idea of special effects back then was to make a spacesuit out of aluminum TV-dinner trays.) The plot involves Bomb #20, which decides, against the wishes of the TV-dinner-tray-clad crew, that it has to fulfill its destiny, namely exploding potential supernovae before they threaten future colonies.
