Chapter 25 -- Speed Is a User Interface Issue

Chapter 25

How do you ruin a user interface? Let me count the ways…. You make it ugly, nonstandard, inconsistent, and confusing. You make the features invisible and hard to find. You clutter the windows and lay out the dialog boxes poorly. You pester the user with many unnecessary dialog boxes and message boxes. But even if you avoid these pitfalls and do things right, you can still end up with a bad user interface if the program is slow. While a program's performance is generally not considered a user interface issue, it should be. Slow software simply isn't usable.
